Trip to Westminister, VT
| Well the last club event of the year was held on Sunday October 10 and it
was a caravan to the MG Fraternity Car Show in Westminister, VT. The weather forecast was
for cloudy weather in the morning and rain late in the day. I said to myself, whats
a little rain! Hey I drove to Stowe in the middle of a hurricane, so whats a few
showers late in the day. Well, it was a cold morning, (upper 30s) so I decided to
put the top up. I then packed up the "A" and headed south on Rt. 495 to meet
fellow club member John Rizza who was in his 1966 MGB. John (who was "topless")
and I headed down Route 495 to Littleton so we could meet any other club members who
wanted to caravan out to the show with us. When we got to the meeting place there was only
one other MGB waiting for us, Colin and Joe Brace in their 1974 MGB (top up!!). We asked
John if he wanted to put his top up, but he said no. He never puts the top up unless
its raining real hard. Me, I had my heater on and the hood up on my sweatshirt and I
was still cold, and this is with my top up!! John did look cold, but he made it all the
way to Westminister with his top down. Of course I did have to pry his fingers off the
steering wheel when we got there!! It was a great ride out there. The foliage was just
starting to peak with some really bright colors. Now if only the sun had come out, it
would have been perfect. We arrived at the show around 10:30am and there were quite a few cars there all ready. This has pretty much turned into an all British car show, so it was great seeing MGs, Triumphs, Jags, Morgans, etc. all lined up together by the decade in which they were built. Shortly after we arrived, Jack Horner showed up in his "new" MG-TF1500. Jack recently purchased this car from a friend of Jans who lived in the Chicago area. Jack flew out to Chicago and drove it home with no problems at all. The car is in great shape considering that it had sat in a garage for many years before Jack purchased it. I also met several club members who had driven up on their own. Larry Swift was there checking out the parts vendors, Don and Karen Irving came in their 1962 MKII Jaguar, John Xenakis in his Triumph, and Bob Peate and family, who came to check out the MGs. By noon the weather started to go downhill with a light rain starting to fall. I checked out the parts vendors and was able to pick up a few things that I needed and then headed into the museum to check out the cars. I still find it hard to believe that one person can own so many different MGs. Sure would like to get my hands on a couple of them!! By 2:00pm it was starting to rain pretty good, so John and I waited around to see who the winners were for the car show and then headed back home. It was a long drive back in the rain and we were very glad to get home. When I checked on the "A" a couple of days later, I found that the carpets were still very wet. I ended up taking out the seats and the rugs so I could get the floorboards dried. It took three more days to dry everything out, but it is now nice and dry once more and ready for another trip!! See you all on the road!! |
