This was the day weve been waiting for since last May. I guess if you make a rain date for an event, it wont rain, right? Right! After watching the five-day forecasts for the last five days we knew we couldnt miss. Sunny and in the 40s to start, but just like Bob told Sylvia, it was 60 by 10 AM. I got tell you when Nancy and I pulled up to the meeting place at 9AM sharp and there were NO MGAs in the lot, my heart sank, but we knew the faithful would show. Little did we know that Steve & Helen Mackay were behind the building waiting. Nice to finally meet some of the folks who have been in the club for several years and who havent had a chance to participate in as many club events as they would like too. By the way, what a beautiful job Steve did on his black 62? 1600 MK II. There will definitely be some tough voting decisions at any future event this MGA shows up at. Shortly thereafter the faithful showed up, Jim & Ellie Guyot (with her "Bugles"), Jack and Jan Horner (Jacks still trying to buy my B-GT for fifty bucks!!), Bob & Sylvia Freerksen (thank God he sold that Fiat), John OMaley (we didnt recognize him in his driving helmet), Judy Pruitt (with her top up!), Ira Cohen (with his motor mounts sagging), and my good brother Steve and his son Jonathan, driving the 74 B-GT as the follow up and support vehicle. Sorry to hear that some of our members thought the event was going to be on the "rain date" before the actual date got rained out. No excuse now with the wonderful job Lynn Feuling and Jim Guyot have done on the website. Check it out at www.geocities.com~bsmgac, its THE way to stay informed of the Club happenings. Nancy did a great job as always with the AM coffee and snacks served out of the rear hatch of the GT, and you all wonder why Im always dieting! We actually left at 10 AM for a back road tour to the Quabbin Reservoir with an unscheduled pit stop at Beaver Falls Dam Park in Barre. I dont know about my traveling companions, but I couldnt quite figure that place out, nice, but what was that all about? And how about that high pressure fly tying -fishing instructor? He almost got Steve "hook, line and...". We just needed to use the head, but thanks anyway. Oh, and sorry about that "still is" rough section of Route 62, some of those things were mogles not bumps! I think Ira left some part of his exhaust system there. Anyway, we had a nice leisurely ride out there (I know Jan was getting a little antsy back there because there were too many points between A and B). Arriving at the Quabbin we did a little drive around of area and even got to see an bald eagles nest complete with new chicks threw some kind guys very fancy telescope. We passed on the drive over the dam to go directly to the look out tower and picnic area (besides Sylvia was hungry and getting grumpy). After commandeering two picnic tables we had a nice lunch and a few of us actually climbed all 80 steps up the look out tower. Steve and Jonathan left to try their luck at a little fishing and caught a small mouth bass (I want to see the picture) and Jonathan decided to check out the water (by accident). Good thing he wasnt riding in the MGA! Unfortunately we all left for our return trips going in different directions. I hope all made it home safely and you had as nice a day as we did. I would like to thank all that participated in the Tour. Its your camaraderie and of course, our MGAs that make belonging to BSMGAC such great fun. |
